LET'S BE HONEST
Mental health needs to be a priority in our ministries. No, not just for our students – for us as well. Various factors challenge us at this moment: seasonal depression, pandemic, lack of job security, and a myriad of other daily stressors.
We need to take time to evaluate where our personal faith journey and our mental health intersect. This is not a passive endeavor. Intentional steps must be taken.
1. How do you prefer your water: from the faucet, bottled, bubbly, or used with tea.
2. What's your favorite movie that you don't necessarily like to tell people is your favorite movie?
3. Are you a front row, middle of the room or like to sit in the back kind of person?
DISCUSSION TIME
Why do you think we have unconsciously adopted the phrase, "sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never hurt me"?
Hurtful words cause anxiety, depression, and low self esteem. Check out these scriptures and let them soak:
• Ephesians 4:29
• Galatians 5:15
• Philippians 2:14
• James 3:5
How do you discern the intersection of faith versus mental healthy?
Have you ever been hurt by words from someone in the church? How did you respond?
"You are not God's employee; you are God's child". Which do you feel is your more natural inclination?
Have you ever heard the voice of God clearly? If so, what was it like?
"Prayer is a weapon and therapy is a strategy" - Dr. Anita Philips. Does this quote resonate with you? Why or why not?
What's one thing you need to do this month to invest in your own personal mental health?
