The phrase "thrill of hope" is used at Christmas time in various forms. But what does that mean? The old English definition (for when this song was written) a piercing penetrating desire and expectation of an obtainable good. In order to fully grasp the depths of this type of hope, is to have experienced hopelessness. That is what we are talking about today.
