As I step into my living room the smell of pine reminds me of the time of the year. The tree is beautiful with the Lego train encircling the trunk and the gifts all around. The Christmas tree with its twinkling lights reminds me that Jesus came to be Immanuel, God with us.
But the harsh truth lurking beneath the glitter is becoming more and more evident. The Christmas tree is DEAD! Though it still looks and smells alive from a distance, the branches are shriveling and the needles are falling off.
Life as a dead tree
Many times in my life I find myself living like this tree. I do not abide in Christ and disconnect from the God of the universe. My tree is cut off, put in a stand and dressed up in baubles and bangles. For a while I may look good but I am dying from the inside out. Then God brings me back to my senses and I reconnect with Him. I realize all over again I am still in need of a Savior.
Are you living or dying?
Are you connected to Life? In your ministry, are you working out of your ability or His eternal power? The amazing thing is that you can reconnect today and live in His presence. He stands at the door and calls to us "open the door and I will come in!" When we live connected to Jesus, how much better are we able to care for teenagers? So take a life assessment right now. Ask God if you are living like you are alive or dead. He will come to you and be with you.
