The current landscape of our society is plagued with bad news: the pandemic, racism, mass shootings, natural disasters — the list goes on and on. The reality is, we cannot hide or shy away from these topics with our youth. They hear the stories, watch the news, and see the articles. Today's youth are as heavily impacted by the weight of tough issues as we are as leaders.
While some of these topics may be seen as 'hot button topics' in a youth ministry setting, we can't deny that students are curious. They want to be in the know, not only for an educational or conversational setting, but also because they want to make change that matters for their future.
We are given the unique responsibility of having tough conversations, educating ourselves as we educate them, and ultimately pointing them back to Jesus throughout the process.
