I continue to marvel at the announcement of Christ's birth.
It began with a single angel. Then, a multitude that told the story of the savior to a group of unlikely messengers.
Those shepherds sought to prove the story true and returned with a "let loose" attitude (The Message, Luke 2), that spurred them to tell everyone and anyone who would listen about Jesus.
From there, a group of learned individuals saw something they had to investigate. Their journey was not a short one, but rather a two-year pursuit.
I imagine the stories told on the trip about their search caused others to wonder about what they were pursuing. After seeing Jesus, their stories grew because of the truth they found.
There are so many parallels between these stories and our journey at NNYM
Sometimes, a single youth leader begins to talk about collaboration and unity, or one student prays at a flagpole. Then, a group gathers to sing the same song and seek God's wisdom and boldness to reach a generation.
There is also a group of wise leaders continuously seeking deeper truths so they can tell the story to the skeptics who question.
Reaching the next generation happens because our savior came as an innocent babe. He did not arrive in power so He would not frighten anyone.
The simplicity of His birth story is that He is Immanuel. He is "with us!"
