Are You Dreaming Big Enough?
In ministry, it's dangerously easy to drift into autopilot. We get good at what we do-good enough to manage programs, lead teams, stay in our lane, and keep things afloat. But sometimes "good enough" becomes the very thing that holds us back from what God is really calling us to.
The enemy of the great often isn't failure-it's comfort. It's settling. It's coasting. And over time, we stop dreaming. We stop risking. We stop asking God to do the unsearchable things only He can do.
That tension-that restless stirring in your spirit that refuses to settle for the status quo-has a name: holy discontentment. It's a Spirit-led unrest that rises when what is falls short of what could be in light of God's promises. It's not burnout or bitterness-it's a divine nudge to believe that God is doing more, and He wants to do it through you.
Scripture reminds us of this in Jeremiah 33:3: "Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know."
This is God's invitation to dream beyond your limits. It challenges leaders who've grown too comfortable with what they can plan or control. God isn't just offering answers-He's offering access to things you haven't even imagined.
Holy discontentment lives in the space between what you know and what God still wants to reveal. The real question isn't "Is there more?"-it's "Are we hungry and humble enough to ask?"
That same heartbeat pulses through Isaiah 43:19: "See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland."
The issue isn't whether God is working-He is. The challenge is whether we're paying attention.
Holy discontentment invites us to notice what's new, not just maintain what's familiar. We often miss the move of God because we're stuck in old rhythms or routines. This verse dares us to look up, lean in, and ask: Am I perceiving what God is springing up-or am I too busy managing yesterday's ministry to see today's miracle?
Dare to Dream a God-Sized Dream
Here are questions to help you name the holy discontentment you may be carrying:
- What is a moment you don't want to miss?
Don't be so busy building ministry that you miss God moving.
- What is a conversation you're curious to have?
That nudge you've been ignoring might be the Spirit prompting a breakthrough or catalytic moment.
- What is a risk you need to run toward?
There will always be a reason to hesitate-fear to heed, excuses to entertain, comfort to protect. But obedience often looks like boldness. You miss 100% of the shots you don't take, and sometimes faith means stepping before you're certain. No risk-no reward.
- What is a demand that needs space to dream?
If you don't make room for the God-sized burden in your heart, it might suffocate under the weight of your schedule.
- What is a talent that ought to be taken to the next level?
Don't mistake holding back your gifting for humility. Be confident enough to rigorously, continuously improve your competency for higher Kingdom impact.
- What is a prayer that must be prioritized?
The most important thing you do today may not be task accomplishment-it may be intercession.
- What are you disproportionately bent to double down on?
That passion you can't shake might be the Spirit revealing your lane-don't apologize for running hard in it.
Don't Miss the Moment
Somewhere along the way, many of us stopped dreaming. We've settled into function. We've coasted. But God hasn't stopped moving in dream-like ways. And He hasn't stopped inviting us to join Him.
This isn't a call to hustle harder. It's about waking up to the wonder that God doesn't need you-but He wants you. That truth alone should jolt us out of autopilot and into awe.
My prayer is that you'd feel the tension of that holy discontentment-and lean into it. That it would stir bold prayers, fresh dreams, and deeper dependence on Jesus.
The gospel is still sanctifying.
Your calling is still sacred.
And the Spirit is still stirring.
