Not Every Student Needs a Gap Year
Many students will head directly to college after high school, and that can be a great next step. One of the most practical ways we can support them is by helping them establish Christian community before they ever arrive on campus.
Many colleges and universities have thriving campus ministries, including organizations like Cru, Young Life, InterVarsity, Navigators, and others. Rather than waiting until move-in week, encourage students to connect with a ministry leader before classes begin.
Use Every Student Sent to identify active campus ministries, or reach out directly to these organizations to find the campus leader at their future school and help make a personal introduction. This simple step can become one of the most significant ways we help students remain rooted in their faith during this important transition.
When a Gap Year Makes Sense
While many students are ready to move directly into college, trade school, military service, or the workforce, others may benefit from taking a year to intentionally invest in their spiritual growth and personal development before moving into their next season.
A gap year isn't about taking a year off; it's about taking a year on.
Through discipleship, leadership development, ministry experience, missions, and service, students can deepen their relationship with Jesus while gaining clarity about God's calling for their future.

Apprenticeships
Anchor House
A ministry apprenticeship combining biblical training with hands-on ministry experience through local church partnerships. Students can explore areas such as youth ministry, worship, sports ministry, media, children's ministry, and hospitality while learning from experienced leaders.
Arrowhead Ministries LID Program
A leadership residency serving adults with developmental disabilities through hands-on ministry and support. Students develop emotional intelligence, leadership skills, and professional experience while discovering the value of serving others.
Cru Internships
A ministry-focused experience where students develop leadership skills while serving in campus, local, or international ministry settings. Participants gain practical ministry experience while being mentored within a global community committed to sharing Christ.
Intern Academy
A ministry internship experience designed to help students explore their gifts through mentorship, discipleship, and hands-on service. Ideal for students considering vocational ministry, church leadership, or nonprofit work.
PAIS Movement Apprentice
A ministry apprenticeship program combining leadership development and hands-on ministry experience. Students receiving training and mentoring through 1, 2, or 3-year apprenticeship options designed to equip future ministry leaders.

North Star Bible School

OneLife Institute

Joshua Wilderness Institute
A nine-month Christian gap year focused on deep discipleship, biblical training, and intentional community. Students grow through scripture, ministry experience, leadership development, and service opportunities at Hume Lake while preparing for their next season of life.

Impact 360 Fellows
A highly-regarded faith-based learning experience focused on biblical worldview, apologetics, and leadership development. Students engage with Christian thinkers, wrestle with big questions, and strengthen their faith foundation through intentional study and community.
Launch Gap Year
An eight-month program combining discipleship, theology, life skills, service, and career exploration. Students live in community, earn college credit, and gain practical tools for adulthood while exploring their identity and calling.
MissionYear (TTW)
