You may be aware that October is Pastor Appreciation month. Before you get insecure that no one in your church has "appreciated" you, I encourage you to find ways to show appreciation to other pastors in your community. A little encouragement goes a LONG WAY!
One of the foundational elements of a healthy network is healthy relationships. When you have healthy relationships you KNOW that other people understand you. One way to help strengthen or develop your connection with local pastors is through showing YOUR appreciation for their work during Pastor Appreciation month. Appreciation doesn't have to be elaborate but it does need to be intentional. Here are a few ways to show your appreciation to other pastors for little to no expense.
Low cost ideas for pastor appreciation:
1) Thank You Notes - it feel a bit "old school" but Thank You notes work! A note conveys that you intentionally spent time to think about them and you didn't just add their email into a mass email list! If you can send a handwritten note... that's EVEN BETTER.
2) Social Media Shout-Out - less anonymous than a personal note, your public shout-out can help build Christian community. Your friends see leaders living out a 1 Corinthians 13 type of love in action!
3) $5 Coffee Gift Card - I imagine you don't have a crazy big budget, but knowing that the $5 came from another pastor means a ton.
4) Go for Lunch - If your budget that allows for it, take another pastor out for coffee or lunch to hear how things are going. During lunch talk about what brought each other to Christ, when you felt the call to ministry, and what God has been doing!
Regardless of how you recognize other leaders, know that your efforts are helping build the Kingdom. So many leaders have convinced themselves they are the ONLY person working for Jesus within their community. We can use October to tear-away a lone survivor mindset and allow the Holy Spirit to encourage fellow co-laborers in ministry.
